Journalism Prize:
Border-Stories The transformative power of dialogue

About

The Giangiacomo Feltrinelli Foundation, in collaboration with the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and with the support of Are We Europe, promotes the Border Stories Journalism Prize as part of a broader project of research, public reflection and cultural production focused on European borders as spaces of social, political and cultural transformation.

Telling border stories means engaging with one of the most dense and ambivalent dispositifs of contemporary Europe. Borders are living spaces where political tensions, collective memories, cultural practices, economic flows and human trajectories converge.

The Prize aims to recognise four journalistic reportages capable of interpreting the border as a space of transformation, exploring its political, cultural, human and economic dimensions, and highlighting experiences, practices and visions that contribute to redefining the very meaning of contemporary Europe.

By acknowledging works that combine narrative quality, methodological rigour and a strong capacity for critical analysis of reality, the Prize seeks to strengthen the role of journalism as a democratic safeguard and as a vehicle for civic participation. The initiative is deeply rooted in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, an emblematic territory shaped by its history and its cross-border vocation, and aspires to project the storytelling of European borders into an open, plural and future-oriented perspective.

The Prize is an international initiative dedicated to the selection and promotion of four reportages focusing on the European territory. Submissions must address themes consistent with the project’s focus and offer an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities faced by border cities and regions, investigating dynamics of coexistence, social transformation, mobility and cross-border cooperation.

The Prize will culminate in a public event to be held in Gorizia at the end of May, during which the winning works will be awarded.
