Observatory

Observatory on the Future of Publishing

Starting with an investigation of the historical and social transformations affecting the publishing industry, it questions the future of books and reading. The intention is to understand how the book market and the production of cultural content are changing in the digital age, and at the same time to improve the processes of creation, distribution and fruition of publishing products, combining innovation and sustainability.

What are the Observatory activities?

With the research area dedicated to the Future of Publishing, the Observatory aims to understand how the needs of readers are evolving, in what measure the frontiers of the digital innovation affect the publishing practices and what are the responses of the actors involved.

For these reasons one of the main themes of this research area is the digital transition, taken into consideration as a privileged laboratory in which to investigate that profound reshuffling of audiences and platforms, channels and ways through which to intercept new needs, which are increasingly changing.

Another pivotal theme is that of innovation, understood as the set of processes and technologies that are profoundly transforming the publishing landscape and, therefore, require constant attention.
